How To Tell If Your Garbage Disposal Is Clogged

December 21, 2018

We use them almost every day and certainly take them for granted and we often don't even realize how important it is until it gets clogged and our daily cleaning chores are disrupted. That's right, it's the garbage disposal unit.

Why Does a Garbage Disposal Unit Get Clogged?
There are a number of reasons for this—one of them is poor drainage caused by insufficient water supply for flushing the disposal. Another reason is when foods like egg shells or banana peels are put into the disposal, they aren't ground up properly. This is either due to a lack of water or their reaction to water.

Here are the main signs your garbage disposal is clogged:

#1 — It's Loud
The unit is making lots of noise and the food materials are not being properly ground up.

#2 — You Can Still See Waste Remains

After running the garbage disposal, there's still a mess at the waste discharge pipe of the disposal.

#3 — It Smells Bad

If you can smell the odor of rotting food coming from your disposal sink opening, that's a surefire sign that things aren't being drained properly.

A clogged garbage disposal unit is difficult to clean unless proper steps are taken. Calling a professional to take care of this for you is the surest and safest way to solve your problem.
